TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) deemed both Jokowi-Ma'ruf and Prabowo-Sandi tickets failed to grasp substantial human rights issues during the inaugural presidential debate last night

“We have yet to see the commitment and strategies to solving human rights violations, which include the cases of severe violations,” said Komnas HAM commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara at his office on Friday, January 18.

Moreover, Beka said the views of both tickets were relatively similar when explaining issues regarding discrimination and persecution.

The only difference between them was at the segment on the rights of people with disabilities. Jokowi and Ma’ruf Amin focused on equality and the importance of introducing the culture of fully respecting the rights of the disabled, while rival Prabowo–Sandiaga pair pressed on the issue of accessibility and fair job opportunities.

In general, the Komnas HAM commissioner said the first round of the presidential debate failed to display a comprehensive view of the candidates’ policies and strategies to uphold human rights protection, fulfillment, and enforcement.
